Biggles, from war hero to detective (download links for epub format ebooks)
(Big Changes Incoming!!! Stay tuned for update to the downloads!!!)James Bigglesworth, nicknamed ""Biggles"" , is a fictional character made by veteran war flier W.E. Johns. Biggles is a war flier, charter pilot and a Scotland Yard detective. He is an intelligent individual , thinking up solutions for simple and complex cases. He is never shy of being wrong, but uses force when the time comes. Has won the D.S.O and D.F.C. Biggles made his first appearance in the story The White Fokker, published in the first issue of Popular Flying magazine and again as part of the first collection of Biggles stories, The Camels Are Coming (both 1932). Johns continued to write "Biggles books" until his death in 1968, the series eventually spanning nearly a hundred volumes – including novels and short story collections – most of the latter with a common setting and time.Biggles has been read by children and adults alike for many decades, and the exploits of himself and his team are hair-raising as well as brave. For anyone with a fancy to know about war flying in the WW1, WW2 and post WW2 Biggles books are an excellent introduction.Biggles first appears as a teenaged "scout" (fighter) pilot in the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) during the First World War. He has joined the RFC in 1916 at the age of 17, having conveniently "lost" his birth certificate. Biggles represents a particularly "British" hero, combining professionalism with a gentlemanly air. Under the stress of combat he develops from a slightly hysterical youth prone to practical jokes to a calm, confident, competent leader. He is occasionally given "special" (secret) missions by the shadowy figure of Colonel (initially Major) Raymond (Wing Commander/Air Commodore in later books, reflecting the creation of the Royal Air Force with its own ranks), who is already involved with the intelligence side of operations. Biggles is accompanied by his cousin Algernon ('Algy') Lacey and his mechanic Flight Sergeant Smyth, who are to accompany Biggles on his adventures after the war; added to the team in 1935 is the teenager Ginger Hebblethwaite. The bulk of the Biggles books are set after the First World War, and after Johns' flying career was over. Biggles has an unusually lengthy career, flying a number of aircraft representative of the history of British military aviation, from Sopwith Camels during the First World War, Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires in the Second World War, right up to the Hawker Hunter jet fighter in a postwar adventure Biggles in the Terai. In these later books geographic and historical accuracy is rather less evident and the sometimes rather grim detail of the first stories is moderated, in deference to the increasing popularity of the Biggles books with a younger audience than the older adolescents at which they were initially targeted. The books were popular and were eventually translated into Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Flemish, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. Here are the links to the Biggles books in the .ePub format.

IT SUCKS TO GO TO ALL THE TROUBLE OF UPLOADING AND LINKING ALL THE BOOKS FOR IT TO COME DOWN DUE TO COPYRIGHT STRIKES, SPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE AUTHOR IS DEAD. SEND ME AN EMAIL AT bookloverhaven@gmail.com. If I resolve the issue I can contact yall.
Faded Pages, a non-profit organisation involved in the digitisation and sharing out-of-print books whose copyrights have expired in Canada, have uploaded three "Worrals" books on their website, among many other fine collections. Check here or search for "fadedpage.com" on any search engine.
If you'd like to check out my other uploads, they're here:
Downloading Biggles on the Home Front gives the wrong book, namely: Biggles on Mystery Island.
ReplyDeleteI've solved the problem.
DeleteThanks for reporting.
And thank you for solving the problem. Best Wishes from Denmark, Kristian
DeleteWonderful site. Thanks to you I was able to get the last 3 Biggles books that I needed. I finally have all of the Biggles books in mobi and epub format except for #9 Biggles Air Ace
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving me the opportunity to complete my collection of (now mostly digital) Biggles books further.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for what you are doing for all of us book lovers !! Very much appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteA request - is there a way to get the books from Enid Blyton's 'The five find-outers and the dog' series up on the website please?
I'll try to put it up soon!!
DeleteThanks so much Vincent!
DeleteThank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Deleteno words to say... nice work
ReplyDeleteAmazing collection. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteRequesting two books to be added. Biggles sweeps the desert (aka Biggles defends the desert) yr1942 and Biggles the Air Ace - the Uncollected Stories yr1999.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention!! I'd gotten the former AFTER I'd uploaded these. Somehow I forgotten to link it. Now Biggles Sweeps the Desert is up. Air Ace, on the other hand, is something I myself haven't found anywhere. When I do, I'll put it up.
DeleteGreat to relive my childhood reading memories, thank you.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see these, takes me back. However 'Biggles Takes the Case' downloads a different book - namely 'Biggles in the Blue'.
ReplyDeleteSolved!! Thanks for informing!
DeleteNo problem, thanks for solving!
DeleteHi Vincent, just wondering is this legal? I'm not reporting or anything, just for my own interest.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not...but these are over 50 years old and the author's already dead. Plus they're really fun to read. Most people are here because they can't get these anywhere as they're old and hard to get.
DeleteMy childhood reading'!
ReplyDeleteThank u so much! I used to love reading these as a kid. Brought back some fond memories of the good old days :)
ReplyDeleteI see the 24th book W.E. Johns wrote in the 'Biggles' series called 'Spitfire Parade' (1941) is not on the list...I have it here in epub format so how can I send it to you for inclusion? ...is there a contact email address anywhere?
ReplyDeleteSecond question...any hope of seeing the Worrals, Gimlet and Steely books eventually?
Ooohhh...I have Spitfire Parade, but I didn't notice that I'd forgotten to add it😅I'll add it soon.
